Hi Sheila,
Just came across this information with the surname you are searching; thought
it might be of interest to you. Marika

JÁNOS CSONKA
January 22, 1852, Szeged - October 27, 1939, Budapest
Engineer, inventor. Initiator of Hungarian engine and vehicle production
János Csonka designed his first gas-powered engine in 1879. His next
design was a gas and petroleum-powered engine, which became known as the Csonka
engine. He then began working together with Donát Bánki, building a
petrol-fuelled engine that bears their names. The two designers patented the first
carburettor in 1893, and then used it to build Hungary’s first motorcycle and
motorboat. Csonka designed the first motorcycle used by the Hungarian post office,
following up with a petrol-powered postal automobile in 1904, which was used for
mail deliveries for the next quarter-century. Csonka began designing cars for
the public in 1909. He built the first Hungarian compressor engine, boat
motor, locomotive used in mining operations, rail car and fire truck. He also
designed buses and cars. He was the first to use aluminium, high-voltage magnetic
ignition and synchronised valves in engine manufacture. Csonka also compiled
the first Hungarian language dictionary of automotive terms. The last product
he patented was a chain saw he designed in 1935, at the age of 84.
