Yesterday I promised a few members the recipe I have for Kifle (nut horns) with sour cream. These may also be filled with a poppyseed, apricot, lekvar or a delicious cottage cheese filling that is mixed with sugar & eggs.
1/2 lb butter
2 1/2 cups flour
1/4 teas. salt
1 teas. vanilla
1/2 pint sour cream
Mix flour and butter as you do for pie crust. Add salt, vanilla and sour cream. Mix well. Dough will be sticky. Wrap in wax paper and refrigerate overnight. Next day, roll dough quite thin and cut into small squares. Fill center with nut filling: 1 cup sugar, enough milk to moisten and about 1 lb. walnuts (ground fine). Roll and bake at 425 for 12-15 minutes or less. (They are sooooo good hot out of the oven)
Here is the poppyseed filling: 1/2 lb. ground poppyseed; 1 1/2 cups sugar; 2 Tablespoons sour cream and 2 Tablespoons milk. Mix and spread on dough.
Also, here is a good online recipe site for many Hungarian dishes (all in English):http://homepage.interaccess.com/~june4/recipes.html
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!!!
