QUOTE

THE HUNT FAMILY

[Documented by Beatrice Hunt Barnett thru about 1963]

In the company of Englishmen that came to Long Island in 1652 to plan the town since known as Newton, was Ralph Hunt.

He was one of the seven patentecs to who, in behalf of themselves and associates, a grant was made by Gov. General Richard Micholl, of the land on which Newton was afterwards built. He was for many years one of the first Magistrates, and actively and prominently engaged in its business interests, as the Records abundantly prove. He died in 1677, leaving children, viz: Ralph, Edward, John, Samuel, Mary and Ann.

His son, Edward, married Sarah Betts, daughter of Captain Richard Betts.

His son, Jonathan Hunt I, married Phebe Titus, daughter of Captain Content Titus of Weymouth.

His son, Jonathan Hunt II, married Miss Stout. He was born in 1756 in New Jersey, was Captain of Cavalry in the Revolutionary War; captured at the Battle of Long Island and confined in the Prison ship "Hersey" for two years.

Their son, David Hunt ... (Signed) Dunbar Hunt, 5 Apr 1901)
