The Macey (Macy) family name was particularly strong in Wessex centered on
the villages to the south of Salisbury.

A one Thmoas Macy of Chilmark, abd others, went to the New World in the
1600's and his activities and progress there is well documented.

However wher did the name come from before that?

There is said to be a number of theories from descendents of Roman settlers
etc.

However in France to this day there are two villages both with names
spelled exactly the same i.e. MACEY which leads me to the view that perhaps
my (or the Wessex) Macey's were refugees from France and inparticular from
one of those French vilages,

How likely is that? can anyone advise me?
Does anyone know about those French villages and does anyone have any
details of their history etc?
