On page 52, Baird states that Benjamin MARION, ancestor of Francis
("Swamp Fox") MARION, was born in La Chaume, a seaport town "inhabited
chiefly by hardy sailors, whom the dragoons found it difficult to
convert." Another refugee from La Chaume to Carolina was Gabriel
RIBOUTEAU, while Jean GIRARDEAU was from the neighboring town of
Talmont.
