Subject: [Huguenot-L] re. Ahnentafel of Jean Pierre BONDURANT (1677-1734), very long.
Date: Tue, 3 Aug 1999 15:45:58 -0700 (PDT)
Well, at Jean-Benedict's request, I'm posting this partial Ahnentafel for
Jean Pierre BONDURANT (1677-1734). I haven't typed all of my material into
my genealogy program yet, so that is half the reason I'm calling this a
"partial Ahnentafel" -- the other reason is that even in it's incomplete
condition, the current Ahnentafel runs to something like 30-plus
pages...Still, I do apologize for the length of this post.
I'll address the issue of sources and a few other things at the end of the
Ahnentafel. Let me preface what with follows, however, with noting that
this is indeed the same Jean Pierre BONDURANT who arrived in Virginia on the
ship *Peter and Anthony* in the fall of 1700. Also, contrary to much that
has been written in the past (and unfortunately continues to be written), he
was not a son of a Dr. Joseph BONDURANT and a CHASTAIN -- as far as the
primary sources indicate, those two individuals might as well be regarded as
mythological beings. Also, contrary to family lore, the immigrants wife Ann
was not a member of either the FAURE/FORD or l'ORANGE families -- there is
absolutely no documentation in primary sources to support either claim. She
may have been a TANNER -- it's only a theory, but there is at least a will
that seems to offer at least some support for that suppostion.

I've a great deal of additional information on the ancestors of nos. 124,
126, and 127 as well as a few generations-worth of information on the
families of nos. 9, 17, and 125. Antoine BONDURANT (no. 64 above) is the
oldest known direct male-line ancestor of Jean Pierre BONDURANT (1677-1734).
The bulk of the research on the BONDURANT family itself has been done by the
Bondurant Family Association and has been appearing in their family
newsletter (in various stages of development) since the 1980s. The
relationship between Jean Pierre BONDURANT (1677-1734) and the de BELCASTEL
family, as well as Jeanne de BELCASTEL's descent from the de MONTCALM
family, was published in "Cahier no. 10 du Centre de Genelogie Protestante,
2eme trimestre 1985" in a study of Lt. General Pierre III de BELCASTEL
(1648-1710), Marquis d'Aveze & Baron de Beaufort. The Lt. General and Jean
Pierre BONDURANT's mother, Gabrielle BARJON, were first cousins. Much of
this is also discussed in an article by Edouard Goulon Sigwalt, "Jean Pierre
Bondurant (1677-1734): Refugie huguenot en Virginie," that was published in
*Societe de l'histoire du Protestantisme Francais* (July 1989). Using
sources such as H. de Barrau's 4 vol. *Documens Historiques et Genealogiques
du Rouergue* (1972, reprnt. of 1860 edn.) and d'Hozier's *Amorial General de
France*, I've been able to trace the ancestry of Louise de MONTCALM (no. 31
above). Both the des PORCELLETS and de PONTEVES lineages can be verified in
the *Europaische Stmmtafeln* (band XIV, 11, 12, 18-34 for the de PONTEVES
and band XV, 135-143 for the des PORCELLETS). Finally, I've also had a
great deal of help from a number of researchers in both France and England,
including Peter (a.k.a. Pierre) DeLoriol, who've kindly been willing to
share information with me.
