My Grandmother, Bertha Duren was born in Newark, NJ on 8 May 1878 and
was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church. I have been wondering if the
name is of Huguenot origin, and I would appreciate any help you could
give me. From her records the name was originally Durrant, and then she
had written, "now commonly called Durant, or Duren. Or sometimes
Durante, Durrent, Durent The original ancestor was John who was married
(birth date not known) in 1670. His son was John who was born in 1672.
His son Abraham was born in 1709. His son Reuben was born in 1748. His
son Joel was born in 1780. His son Robert Osborn was born in 1803. His
son George was born in 1844, and my Grandmother Bertha was born in 1878.
Thank you for any advise that you can send.
