> I find the origin of my family in La Rochefoucauld, Charente, France. The
first ancestor we find is Hélie de Villemandy de La Mesnière who received
in 1411 a piece of the Holy Cross brought from Palestine by the Chevalier de
Livron. By that time my ancestors appeared to be Catholics. They became
Protestants during the XVI th century. My ancestor Pierre Jacob de
Villemandy de La Mesnière (1590-1666) had 8 children. Among them was Pierre
Abraham de V. de La M., born 14th december 1636. He married Magdeleine
Suzanne de Saunières the 24th october 1666 in La Rochefoucauld. He was a
Minister and Doctor in Theologia. He wrote several books and became
professor of Philosophy at the Saumur University (France). After ( some
people say "just before") the "Révocation de l'Edit de Nantes" (1685), he
went to Leyde ( Netherlands) where he was the head of the "Collège Wallon
de Leyde" and was in fact the last manager of the college which was closed
in 1699. Apparently, he then went to England where he died in march 1703. He
had one son, Pierre Jacques de V. de La M., born in Saumur (France) in 1685
or 1686. This Pierre Jacques married a Catharine Verduyst on the 3rd of
july 1707. We have no news from uncle Pierre Jacques since that time .
According to the family tradition, uncle Pierre Jacques would have had
several daughters who would have migrated to America. 1) Any information
welcome. 2) Sorry for my poor English.
