Frances, I am no expert on reading French , but on noble/royal lineage
charts that word is used
to tell a battle one died in. Example from Ascendance comlete de de Fay

comte de la March & Perigord 974
The word is battle in English. One other thing to mention, there is a
Huguenot Manakin ancestor
