Hello To All:

I have been a member of this list for several weeks and have been reading all
the posts to the list.

It is my sincere hope that someone will be able to help me determine where
and how I can search for family in Ireland.

I have researched my family back to my ggg grandfather Martin Friedrich
Conell born in Basenthin, year is unknown and died before 1824, location
unknown. My grandfather was born in Gruenhof, Kreis Regenwalde, Pommern and
came to America with his wife in 1886 and settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Recently, I located many additional family members many of which are still
alive in Germany.

>From the granddaughter of my grandfather's brother I have just learned the
following information:

"The Conell Tree originally stood in Ireland and was then O'Connell (O for
the son
of, You may know). They were Huguenots and forced out to France, where the
'O' was dropped. But they were forced out of Germany too, where
they dropped the 2nd 'n'.

In searching around on the Internet I came across an article posted that was
entitled "Huguenots in Ireland." In this article it addresses the fact that
in 1590 a colony of Huguenots was established in the ancient village of
Swords near Dublin. It also states that this colony was established in the
making of linens.

One additional piece of information that I have picked up from my
grandfather's brother's granddaughter is that at one time her grandfather
received a letter that stated he had inherited something in Ireland. All she
knew was that her grandfather tore it up and threw it away after reading it.

If someone can help me as to how I might go about tracking the possibility of
my family originating in Ireland and that they were Huguenots I would be very
grateful

My name is Elaine (Conell) Johnson and you can feel free to e-mail me
directly with any response.

Thanks for your help.

Elaine ()
