Jean Coutant was a refugee hugenot who came to New York City, and eventually
settled Ulster County, Plattekill Township, NY by his descendants.
According to the information I have, he was from Paris, as was his bride,
susanne Gouin. He was born around 1658, and probably fled Paris after the
revocation of the Edict of Nantes.
I am interested if anyone else shares this particular ancestry. He is
listed 'officially' as a hugenot by the Hugenot Society, and I wonder like a
lot of other people where any records would be regarding Hugenot names etc.
I would think that most names would have been recorded by the church and are
probably still there somewhere.
