Vital records - birth, death, marriage were kept by churches, not by the French
government. The Edict or Revocation in 1685 specified that all non-catholic
churches were to be burned. Not all of them were, and some of the records were
carried along by fleeing refugees. Some are now housed at a library in Paris.
Some are kept by the Huguenot Society of London in their library. (my attempts
to communicate with those people have yeilded nothing, but I have read some of
their publications at the University of Washington main library in Seattle) I
believe there are other depositories but I don't know what or where they are.
