Hi,

Could be a variant/misspelling but also possibly a different name
altogether.

In pursuing a completely different line of research recently, I found
someone born in the late 19thC whose given names were Emile Elie. This
person was a Channel Islander, with a French sounding surname - I am told a
lot of Channel Islanders are of Norman descent.

Also, I am trying to dredge up memories of childhood 'Divinity' lessons -
wasnt Eli a biblical character. Possibly the man in the temple who had
waited for the messiah before dying, and is credited with the Nunc Dimmitus?
So is Elie the French spelling of Eli?
