I recently read a book by Diarmaid McCullochm The Reformation- A History. In
it he mentions a Huguenot Navy. He doesn't provide a footnote and it
doesn't appear in the index, so I guess I would have to search through all the
chapters on the French political problems until I find it.

My thoughts on it when I read it was that perhaps they were merchant ships
that had been converted. Many merchants were represented in the Huguenot ranks
as well as military men. We do know that they had their own armies and
fortified cities and I don't think it impossible that they didn't have some sort
of naval force as well.
