Bible Records are now available!!!


The Huguenot Historical Society is pleased to offer Volume 1 of "The Ages of
the Children:" The Huguenot Historical Society Bible Records, New Paltz, NY
. This first volume includes transcriptions of 73 family registers stored
with the Society's Bible and Religious Book Collection. The entire
collection currently encompasses over 400 Bibles and other Christian
religious works, and is ever growing. The majority of the Bibles were
printed during the seventeenth - nineteenth centuries, although a few date
from the twentieth century.

Volume 1 provides vital information for over 1,500 individuals. When
combined with volumes 2 and 3 (to be published during the next two years),
the final count is expected to surpass 5,000. Surnames represented in Volume
1 include all of the New Paltz Patentee families plus Bruyn, Bolles,
Brodhead, Bull, Craig, Decker, Delamatter, Ean, Elting, France, Hammond,
Jansen, Johnson, Knickerbocker, Lewis, Louw, Ostrander, Pells, Quackenboss,
Van Orden, Van Wagenen, Walker, and more. The records typically consist of
handwritten notices and newspaper clippings proclaiming the births,
marriages, and deaths of family members. Records of servants and slaves also
appear, albeit rarely. English translations of family registers written in
French and Dutch are also provided.



Access to Volume 1 is available by visiting the HHS Library, but CD-Roms of
these records are also for sale. For members, the CD is offered for $24.95
(plus $4.00 s/h and $2.00 NYS sales tax, if applicable). For non-members,
the CD is offered for $29.95 (plus $4.00 s/h and $2.40 NYS sales tax, if
