Judy,
I wrote Nancy and did some research in the Ancestral File and in a book I
have titled "History and Genealogy of the Harlan Family". We discovered
that Nancy's ancestor, David Clark ALLEN, b. 1842 is the older brother to my
husband's ancestor, Nancy Jane ALLEN, b. 1846 who married Nathanial HARLAN.
I would suspect that you are related also. This Allen family was in Putnam
co. IN by 1833. Perhaps your James is a brother or maybe even the father
(depending on the age at death) to our David ALLEN, b. 1804. Here is his
family:
David ALLEN, b. 9 Jun 1804, NC, d. in Franklin co. IA
Nancy HOGAN, b. 2 Nov 1811, KY (wife), d. in Franklin co. IA
William L. ALLEN, b. 9 Oct 1829, ?
Jonathan H. ALLEN, b. 10 Jun 1832, IN
Ruth A. ALLEN, b. 16 Feb 1833, Putnam co. IN
James W. ALLEN, b. 8 Jul 1835, Putnam co. IN
Hester ALLEN, b. 4 jan 1837, Putnam co. IN
Francis Wesley ALLEN, b. 7 Oct 1838, Putnam co. IN
Hannah J. ALLEN, b. 2 Oct 1840, Putnam co. IN
David Clark ALLEN, b. 4 Dec 1842, Putnam co. IN
Solomon Marion ALLEN, b. 8 Jul 1844, Putnam co. IN
Nancy Jane ALLEN, b. 11 Sep 1846, Putnam co. IN
Sarah Catherine ALLEN, b. 1 May 1849, Putnam co. IN
Walder Leland ALLEN, b. 2 Jan 1852, Wapello co. IA
Do you know where in NC your James is from? Let me know what you think of
this. It would be great if you tied in.
~Terry
