Jeanne,
Thanks. I have his military records from the Archives, but I am really
having a time finding where he is buried. He is not in any of the
cemeteries around Tupelo that I have found. The govt has no record of
a burial, no record of a grave marker being ordered in Jackson Co, IA
or elsewhere for him.
Unfortunately, he is probably buried in an unmarked grave in
Mississippi, but I am just not ready to give up yet. He appears to be
the only "one" lost from his unit. The govt records say he "died in the
hands of the enemy" 9 days after being captured, so I hope there is a
record of him somewhere.
I understand there is something called "Prisoner of War Records", but
haven't located them yet. I have been trying to gather all the
Confederate Units that were in the Battle in the hopes that he might
be mentioned in one of them.
Any suggestions are welcome :-) !!!
