Sandy,
As I posted earlier, a William England did serve in Co. E, 8th Iowa Cavalry,
but his records show that he survived the war and mustered out with his
regiment at Macon, GA in Aug. 1865. And as I stated, it's not impossible for the
records to err.
I checked the rosters for another William England and found one in the 16th
Iowa Infantry:
William C. England served in Co. E, 16th Iowa Infantry. He was born in
Illinois, and was 29 when he enlisted on Oct. 5, 1864. He mustered the same day.
His record states he died Jan. 18, 1865, at Savannah, GA, and is buried in the
National Cemetery at Beaufort, SC. Is it possibe this is the William England
you're looking for instead of the one in the 8th Iowa Cavalry?
Sue
