Jeptha Dota (b. 1829 Wayne Co, Indiana; d. 11 Nov 1897, Wadena, Minnesota) volunteered for the Union Army on January 1, 1864 at Liberty, Iowa. He was mustered into the Union Army at Fort Dodge. He was enlisted in Company F, Second Calvary Regiment of the Iowa Volunteers. Doty was a private, who primarily was in charge of pack mules, but also served as orderly for Lt. Beasch and cook for Lt. Humphrey. Honorably discharged Sept. 19, 1865 at Selma, Alabama.
I am the g-g grandson of Jeptha Doty, and have copies of letters he sent home to his wife, his military records, and a 1864 tin type photograph he mailed home with one letter (jpg attached with posting). Will provide copies for descendants. Email:
