Doreen,

Often men wanting to enlist would travel to a place where recruiting was
being done, or where their friends or relatives were enlisting. Although I don't
know what led Eli and Robert to go to another county to enlist, it might have
been for one of those reasons. Perhaps they wanted to enlist in a cavalry
regiment that was enlisting nearby.
