Monroe County is in the southern part of Iowa. My experience with one
of my ancestors who was in the 1860 census in Page County, IA was found
enlisted in the Civil War in MO. It might have been closer to enlist in a
neighboring state than to travel a long distance. So, it might be a good
idea to check Mo Civil War records. Hope this helps.............My cousin
and I were many years looking for our ancestor in IA records with no luck
and finally found him in MO. We checked out IL also which might be a good
idea in your case as Monroe is pretty close to IL. Dorothy
