I finally found my my g.g.grandfather through GAR, Grand Army of the
Republic records in a Post close to where he settled after the War. Family
history said he was in an Iowa Cavalry unit, turns out it was an Illinois
Cavalry unit. The GAR record also listed his wife and all his daughters
names.
