I recently wrote inquiring the list (as a list 'newbie') concerning the collection of Civil War letters I have of a shirt-tail relative I wish to publish. I appreciate the replies I received. My query was general so I didn't mention his name or regiment, intending to to do later.

Seth Glover GURDY (sometimes misspelled Gurley/Gurlie/Gurley) He served first in the Third Regt IA Vol. Inf. Co. F., I.V. J. Later the Second and Third Veteran Inf. were consolidated into Co. B., 3rd Battalion.

I need to locate a photo of him --ideally when he served in the Civil War. The only photo I've ever been able to find after years of searching was of him as an elderly man. Can someone tell me where I might find such a Civil War photo of him?

He was . 9-20-1845 Belknap Co., NH, died in/near Bell, CA. He lived a few years in Fayette Co, Iowa and enlisted from there Dec. 20, 1861 for three years. He was honorably discharged Dec. 20, 1864.
He fought at Shiloh and the seige of Corinth, and was Ward Master at the Vicksburg Marine hosptial. He was transferred to the regt at Nashiville, TN and was again detailed to the field hosptial, at Atlanta on July 22, 1864 and remained there til Sherman's march to the sea.

I would deeply appreciate any information about Seth Gurdy and especially any information which would lead to a photo of him in the Civil War. Thank you, Carol
