How do I get copies of Civil War Pension papers (did the govt give pensions to widows?) for Private Franklin Simmons who volunteered for the Iowa 34th Infantry and died probably due to the cypress swamp disease in Louisana. I don't have his death date although I suspect it was 1864. He was a father of four children at the time of his death. The family lived in Frankville, Winneshiek Co., IA Thank you for any help you may be able to provide me. Diana
