re: Birth dates in late 19th century Ireland. It was the responsibility of
the parents to register the child's birth. If the birth was not registered
within 30 days, then there was a substantial fine. If the Parents lived in a
Townland distant from the Registrar, and were unable to complete the
registration within 30 days, they just lied about it.
I have a Great Aunt that was Baptised on Jan 20, 1883. Her Birth
Registration from the General Records Office in Dublin shows her Birth Date
as Feb. 22, 1883. The Baptismal Record came from the Church, and the Birth
from the G.R.O.
So, Birth records from Ireland are not necessarily exactly correct.
