Hi Kate, I trust you are referring to the city of Des Moines which is in
Polk co. rather than the county of Des Moines which is in the s.e. corner of
Iowa. What is your source for her being born in Polk co? Where is the family
on the 1860 census? You may wish to try looking for her church marriage
record. One of the questions asked of marriage applicants in the Catholic
faith is and was, the name & place of the church where they were baptized.
