My name is Barbara Albert and my great-great grandparents, Ebin Taylor
Albert and Jane Gilchrist Albert settled in the Lansing/Mount Hope area in
the early1860's. Two things have happened as a result of my posting a
query on the Allamakee County genweb site. The first is that some other
great great grandchildren of ET and Jane have contacted me and we're
starting to plan a reunion. The second is that someone contated me with
information on the Gilchrists that suggested that there were still
Gilchrists living in Waukon in the late 1920's. I looked up the biography
of John Gilchrist in Allamakee County Biographies (thank you Phyllis
Peterson) and found that John (sister of Jane) married Elizabeth Singleton.
It so happened that my one of the daughters of ET and Jane (my
great-grandfather's sister) married a man named Singleton who had roots in
the area because when he died suddenly in Keokuk, his remains were sent
back to Lansing for burial. So it seems that the Singleton family was
connected with mine in two different parts but the same geographic area.
The questions are:
1. Is anyone out there doing research on the Singletons?
2. How about the Gilchrists?
3. If there are any other Albert descendents out there, get in touch with
me. Maybe we could make this a real big party.
Thanks for you patience.
Barbara Albert
