Last time I talked to Mrs Woodmannsee, the Cemetery book was not going to
be redone atleast not by her. You might want to talk to the publishing co
in Decorah.
The Waukon Standard is the current paper in Waukon. The oldest date
available is 1868 and the farther back you go the more you'll find missing
years. The Recorders office (in the courthouse in Waukon) has microfilm
copies of these. The only problem is that you will need to find someone to
do the search for you, because both the Standard and Recorders office will
not do searches (not enough time). I used to work in the Recorders office.
I did the genealogical requests that were sent to the county on my own
time. I have not work there in over a year now and find that I have no time
to get to the courthouse to do research any more. While I was there me and
this police officer were the only researchers at the time. He quit after I
showed up, stating that he had no more time himself.
Someone asked earlier about dates for records available either in the
county or the state. The State of Iowa started Vital Records 01 July 1880
(Birth and Death) They are available for all years at the state level, but
the Recorders office has some that were not in their offices because the
state took over. I'm thinking it was 1908-1910, 1915, 1918 and others that
the state has only. I'll have to check the dates to be sure. The county
records started 01 July 1851, so Probate and all the other fun stuff
started then. Remember If you ask for a birth between 1880 and around 1930
ask for them to check the "Delayed Births" Book. In this county there were
alot of unreported births. They were only reported later because has most
of you know, they needed or wanted to collect something such as SS or other
benefits.
I do not have time to do any research anymore, but if you have questions I
will try to answer them for you.
