I love old pictures, but these aren't old enough for my connections to
Postville.
To mention again:
Alvah Rowe Prescott, m. 1865 to Lydia Ann Easton. Was a self-taught civil
engineer and teacher in Floyd Co, IA until Civil War, returned to Hardin IA
and farming. Then he and his b-i-l Charles H. Easton "carried on a retail
Hardware and Implement trade in Postville for eleven years; was postmaster in
Postville from 1877 to 1885. Is now engaged in surveying and Fire Insurance
business; holds also the office of Deacon in the Congregational
Church."--written in 1899.
A. R. and Lydia had four children: Theodosia (died young); Mabel, m. Charles
R. Williams (cross-referenced with Tabor Genealogy); Sara Hume, a school
teacher; and Alvah Ralph, a journalist.
Does anyone have any further information about these folks?
