Obituary.
Mathilda Olsen Berg, the daughter of Andreas and Bertha Maria Swenson Olsen,
was born near Oslo, Norway, January 31, 1867 and passed away at the home
of her son, Fritz Berg in Waukon November 9, 1949 at the age of 82 years.

She received her early education in the schools of Oslo and was confirmed
in the Lutheran faith, at the age of 14. She was a firm believer in this
faith until death.

On March 8, 1890, she was united in marriage with Karl Martin Berg of Oslo.
In May of that same year the young couple emigrated to America and settled
on a farm near Postville.

To this union were born three sons, Alfred Berg of Luana, John and Fritz
Berg, both of Waukon. Her husband preceded her in death on December 31,
1895. Besides the 3 sons there are left to mourn: 10 grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren.

Although seriously ill for the past nine weeks with a throat affliction
and having undergone two serious operations at the Lutheran Hospital in
La Crosse, Wisconsin, her brave and courageous spirit never faltered.

She was the surviving member of her family. Her parents, a sister and a
brother having preceded her in death several years ago. Funeral services
were conducted by Rev. L.L. Martin Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Forest
Mills church with interment in the Minert cemetery.
