Bernice Mae (Moon) Pearson, the daughter of Roy W. and Dalia R. (Heins)
Moon, was born July 16, 1919, in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County,
near Luana, Iowa. She had reached the age of 79 years, three months, and
one day.
She was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.
She graduated from the Luana Consolidated School. On June 8, 1938 Bernice
was united in marriage with Roger Orville Pearson. To this union two daughters
were born. They farmed in the Luana and Postville areas, and in 1966 they
moved to a home in Postville.
Bernice worked as a housekeeper at the Postville Community Hospital from
1966 untill its closing in 1990. Her conscientiousness in her work and
her friendliness to staff and patients alike won her many friendships that
lasted throughtout her life. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan
Center in West Union in 1997.
Surviving are two daughters, Janice and her husband, Marvin Grout, of Cedar
Rapids, Iowa and Judy and her husband, Lyle Boebel, of Marion, Iowa, three
grandsons, Mark Graybill and wife, Tammy, of Rochester, MN, Larry Boebel
and wife, Gina, of Swisher, IA, and James Boebel and wife, Holly, of Cedar
Rapids, IA, six great grandchildren, Stephanie and Christopher Graybill,
Nathan, Kory, Brandon,and Lindy Boebel, and a sister, Jeanne Wirkler of
Monona, Iowa.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roger, who died
in 1980, and her stepmother, Lillian Moon.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Her confirmation
verse was from the book of Romans 5:1: "Now that we have been put right
with God through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
