Another old settler has been called to his reward in the person of Gilbert
Hanson who died yesterday morning, February 12, 1924 at 2 o'clock at his
old homestead on Round Prairie.
Mr. Hanson was born in the land of Norway, November 30th, 1831. Shortly
after his marriage to Andrin Nelson in the year 1867 he landed at the Old
Castle Garden, New York, and then in immigrant cars by way of New York,
Quebec and Chicago he landed at Lansing coming directly to Makee township
which was his home continuously during the last forty years of his life.
Mr. and Mrs. Hanson were the parents of three daughters and five sons as
follows: Mrs. Henry Eldridge of Waukon; Mrs. G. A. Bakkum of Fossum, Minnesota;
Mrs. Gilbert Smedsrud, Nic, John and Albert on farms in Makee township;
H. A. and Gilman Hanson of Waukon. Mrs. Hanson preceded him in death May
24 1920.
The funeral will take place Friday from the home at 11 o'clock and from
the West Paint Creek church at 1 p.m., conducted by Rev. Lea and burial
will be made in the cemetery nearby.
