According to information I have the Tom Corwin post office was established in
1849; name changed to Bunker Hill in 1852; and changed again to Ion in 1855.
The location is stated as in Linton Twp. 8 to 9 miles SE of Waterville off
Highway 76 on gravel road X36. The town of Ion no longer exists, but the
area is still referred to as Ion and can be found on some maps.
The Allamakee sites look very interesting. Hope to find time to explore soon.
