Hello, everyone!

I'm Suzann Holland, the new coordinator for Allamakee County. I'm really
looking forward to working with and assisting all of you.

A little bit about me: I'm 29 and I'm a subject services librarian at Milwaukee
Public Library. My roots are actually in Scott County, Iowa (the Davenport
area). I've been working on my own genealogy for about two years and it
has become a real obsession! I'm sure you can relate.

I need a favor from all of you. I am in the process of making some cosmetic
changes to the Allamakee GenWeb site. However, I would really like to change
the way it is organized, too. I don't want to step on any toes here, so
this is why I really want your feedback...

How would you feel about the contributed materials being stored on the web
site, rather than having a bunch of links to the GenConnect Boards? I would
really like the site to be a mini-library, with a treasure trove of information.
There have been a few problems lately with the boards, which demonstrates
another advantage of having our resources in our own online data bank.

If you're all supportive of this, here is what would happen. I would redesign
the navigation of the site to make it a little easier to get around. I
would then transfer all of the data that is now on the boards and store
it in our online library for all to enjoy. Then the links such as "marriages"
and "wills" would point to sections of the site rather to GenConnect boards.

I would also like to add a create a master surname index for the site.
For instance, you would click on the name "Turner" in the index and you
would get a listing of all mentions of that surname in the online library.

I appreciate your consideration of these ideas. As a librarian, I'm always
looking for the easiest methods to access resources. Please let me know
how you honestly feel about the proposed changes... Remember, this is YOUR
web site - I'm just coordinating it for you.

Cordially,
Suzann :)
