Hello all. I am new to this list. I could not find a list for Howard County
so hope you folks in Bermer can help. Working on two surnames, McGourty and
Ronan. There were two McGourty families in Howard County in 1880-James and
Patrick. Patrick married Alice Ronan, daughter of Patrick and Catherine
(McMorrow) Ronan in 1880. The Ronan family appears in the 1880 census as
follows:
Patrick, age 53, born in Ireland
Kate, age 45, born in Ireland
James, age 18; Patrick, age 16; John, age 14; Katie, age 11; Mary, age 9;
Anna, age 7; Lizzie, age 4; Maggie, age 2; Patrick McGourty, age 26; Alice
Ronan McGourty, age 20.
The Ronan family lived in Ohio in the 1850's. Patrick is first shown on the
1850 census (Logan Co., Miami Twp) with John Ronan, age 35, Mary Ronan, age
26, Mary Ronan, age 2, John Ronan, age 2, Timothy Ronan, age 25, Junus Ronan,
age 22, Patrick at age 19, Ellen Ronan, age 17.
Patrick Ronan married Catherine McMorrow (Murray?) in 1857 in Clark County.
Alice was born in Sidney, Ohio in 1858. James and Patrick were also born in
Ohio, the rest of the children were born in Iowa.
There should be a "Mae" in this family. She married a Droney (Drowney?) and
had twin sons Orvil and Orvis. Orvil was a business man in Minneapolis and
Orvis had a liquor establishment/restaurant in DesMoines. Would very much
like any information about this family of Ronan or contact with the Ronan
decendants. Thank you, Margaret Merrill (McGourty) in Idaho.
