Hi Bremer County List;
My clan all came from Germany;
Selk, and Westendorf from Arendsee, Brunshaupten, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany area;
Mundt from Wischuer, Biendorf, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany and
Blengow, Alt Gaarz, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany area; and
Schumacher from Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany area.
The Selk, Schumacher, and Westendorf all came around mid 1850's to York Twp, Du Page Co., Illinois and
they all lived next to each other. (all on same 1860 census sheet!)
As the Bremer Co., Iowa area was open up to farmers,
most of the move in the 1860's to western Bremer Co., Iowa.
The Mundt's came over in 1880's and also settled in the same area.
The Mundt, Selk and Westendorf are all inter related from Germany.
The Schumacher married into the clan while in Illinois.
My Grand Mother Emma Anna Schumacher (1868-1956) was first cousin to
my Grand Father Johann Christian Wilhelm Mundt (1860-1939)
via two Selk sisters connection (Selk/Mundt 1852 Germany) and (Selk/Schumacher 1858 Illinois).
As they say, "The rest is History...."
Thank you,
God Bless,
Clarence G Mundt
