Yes, the German, Austrian, and Dutch were drawn to Carroll County by the
richness of the soil, the cost of land, and the small communities that
welcomed them. My great grandfather came from Austria via Chicago to New
Vienna, Iowa and eventually to Breda in Carroll county.
