I translated the following obituary from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published on Friday, 9 March 1894. Any information in brackets or notes at the end are my own explanations. It reads as follows:

[Arcadia]
[John Claus Rickers]

Last Saturday morning at 11:30, following a short illness, John Claus Rickers passed away at the home of his son. He had reached the advanced age of 83 years, 9 months, and 2 days. Following a very moving sermon by Pastor Huendling of Wheatland Township, the earthly remains were buried Monday at Brueggemann's cemetery with a large number of people in attendance. "Papa Rickers" was born in Sdereich, Holstein, came to America in 1867, and settled in Blue Island, Cook County, Illinois. After the death of his wife, who passed away in 1874, Mr. Rickers moved here in 1875 with the family of his son Johann, who always treated him quite well. He leaves behind two sons who mourn the death of their father, namely Johann from here, and Gerhard, who lives in Blue Island, Illinois. Peace to his ashes.
