OLDEST LOCAL RESIDENT DIES ON SATURDAY
Mrs. Caroline Friedlein Passes at Age of 98
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from St. Paul's Lutheran church here for Mrs. Caroline Elizabeth Friedlein, 98, Guttenberg's oldest resident. Mrs. Friedlein died at her home here last Saturday following a long period of failing health.
The services were conducted by Rev. James Brown, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church and burial was in the Guttenberg City Cemetery in charge of the Tuecke Funeral Home. Pallbearers were: Oliver Friedlein, Emil Friedlein, Donald Kinyon, Gilbert Troester, Larry Troester, and Thos. Friedlein.
Mrs. Friedlein was born April 26, 1866 in Jefferson Township near Guttenberg, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Rodenberg. On February 24, 1888, she was married to Henry Friedlein, Sr. at the St. John Parsonage in Guttenberg. Mr. Friedlein died on February 17, 1947 at the family home in Guttenberg. They were the parents ot ten children, one of whom preceded her in death, a son Albert.
Surviving her are four sons and five daughters; Henry Friedlein of Colesburg, Mrs. Elizabeth Troester of Dubuqe, Herman Friedlein of McGregor, Mrs. Clarence Valentine of Benson, Minnesota, Leonard Friedlein of East Dubuque, Lawrence Friedlein of Kerkhoven, Minnesota, Mrs. Martha Halverson of Stoughton, Wisconsin, Miss Minnie Friedlein of Guttenberg and Mrs. Dorothy Kinyon of Keosauqua.
Also surviving are 37 grandchildren, 140 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Friedlein was preceded in death by one son, Albert.
