I was born on a farm N of Westside in Jackson Twnshp. & grew up on a =
farm S of Westside in Hayes Twnshp. on the 5-mile house road. My =
parents were John Henry Bock from Heidkaten-Kaltenkirchen, Germany and =
Emma (Segebart) Bock from Manilla, Iowa.
I attended Westside Consolidated School from 1st grade up to the last 12 =
weeks of my Jr. year in high school when my parents retired from farming =
& moved to Carroll.
A write-up of my teaching career is posted on one of Glen Kusel's web =
pages. He lives near Manning and has much interesting information =
posted. I taught N of Manning for two years and he knows and is also =
related to some of the people I knew there. I also taught in a rural =
school between Denison & Vail and 1st grade in Denison for two years.=20
One of the people my Dad worked for when single was for Allen Barber, N =
of Manilla.
If anyone has any anecdotal information on my parents, from knowing of =
them thru their parents or grandparents, I would appreciate hearing from =
them. I am especially searching for other people my Dad worked for =
before he married my Mother, where my parents lived when first married, =
and who the friend was listed on his ship list on the Ellis Island site. =
I can not decipher this name. One possibility is Goetz.
I have a lot of genealogical information from Germany and am planning a =
trip this summer to the area of Germany where my Dad and my Mother's =
parents originated from. My Mother's ancestors were from the =
Griefswald, Germany area.
The Crawford Co. Genealogy site is great. I check it for new info quite =
often.
Sincerely,=20
Lois M. Smith
