C.T. Marshall
One of the earliest settlers was C.T. Marshall. He came to Crawford County in
1870. Although he was a poor boy he was ambitious and had worked in Sioux
City for three years and so was able to purchase 120 acres in section 14. From
this nucleus he managed to accumulate 1200 acres and built a fine residence
which is still on the farm north of Charter Oak. He was one of the early big
livestock feeders and shipped from 600 to 800 head of cattle annually. Two of
his daughters are residents of Charter Oak; Misses Mae and Jessie Marshall.
Mrs. Hattie Peters, another daughter, who will be 90 years in August, lives in
Claudia’s Nursing Home.
There is an photograph of Mr. Marshall included with the article.
