I am going through a collection of photos from my Grandmother Cora Curry
Woods, who was born near Woodland in Oct 1876 and died in 1961 and could use
a little help.

I have two small snapshots of a large group of people some I believe
attended Riddle School and also one of a large group of people from the
Woodland area.
On the back of one photo is written "this is those that was present that day
that had attended at the old Riddle School house" The other is written
"this is one of the hole (sic) crowd"

Cora's aunt, Mrs. George (Melissa Riddle) Sapp is in the photo and she died
in June 1934 so it is prior to that. I believe that Otis Deisher is there.

My reason for posting is to ask several questions.

Was there a particular time of the year that Woodland community gatherings
were held (such as 1st Sunday in June). The reunion is in a clearing
surrounded by large trees. The men are in long sleeved white shirts and
ties, the ladies mostly in light colored dresses.

Does anyone know of a newspaper clipping collection that might include those
who attended.

Other cousins and I poured through a lot of photos when we published the
Riddle-Beavers history in 1981 and many of these faces are familiar, I just
can't put names with them. I know if I could just get some names that these
people would talk to me.

The photos are small 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 or so, and I tried enlarging them to just
a bit bigger and they soon became blurry. I don't know that they would
reproduce well enough to show up well on a website.

A lesson to us all. I inherited Grandmother's photos when her daughter died
in 1990. A cousin-in-law just handed them all to me, and said we don't know
(or care) about these. You might as well take them. I remember begging as a
small child to be permitted to look at these same pictures and was refused.
I have identified many of the photos in the collection but not all. So
folks, if you are going to keep your photos until your last breath, please
write names on them and make the younger generations sit down and pay
attention. Tell them there will be a test before the reading of the will
and if they don't pass it, they won't inherit anything (smile)

Gayle
