The Decatur County Journal
January 27, l887
OBITURY: DEATH OF EMMA C. OSBORN.
She was a daughter of MATTHEW P. and JANE RYAN, and was born in Center
Township, Decatur County, Iowa, on the l4th day of August l867, and died
on the 27th day of January, l887, in Bloomington Township, Decatur
County, Iowa. She was married to JOHN T. OSBORN on the 22nd day of
November, l885.
In a little more than a year after her marriage, she was suddenly taken
from her husband and father and mother, brothers and sisters, to live
with her Savior in Heaven. How sorrowful the scene when they all
gathered around to view for the last time the face of one so dear to
them. One of her sisters, CLARA, the wife of THOMAS M. AKERS, was not
at the burial on account of being sick.
The cause of her death was swelling of the tonsils of the throat which
caused congestion of the lungs. She had been subject to the sore throat
when she took cold and was not thought to be in a dangerous condition
until the night before she died. The physician was summoned but she was
beyond all human aid, and grew rapidly worse and passed away about 9
o'clock on Thursday evening.
a large number of friends and acquaintances came to witness the burial
service, which was conducted by REV. H. W. HARPER. EMMA was converted
to Christ three years ago this winter and joined the United Brethren
Church, and was not ashamed to testify to the power of Jesus to save.
She was buried at Elk grave yard to rest until the resurrection of the
just.
No more they husband will behold
Within his home thy face,
For thou has found in Heaven above
A blessed dwelling place.
No more can sisters talk to thee
While they on earth remain
Nor brothers hear thy voice so dear,
'Til they shall Heaven gain.
Thy father and thy mother too
Who wished for thee to stay,
Expect to meet thee in thy home,
And live with thee alway.
Ye mourning friends dry up your tears
And in the way press on,
A few more days and years shall pass
Then Heaven's bright day will dawn.
ELIZA OSBORN
