IDA M. YANNEY was born near Fremont, Sandusky County, Ohio, December 22,
l863, died at her home in Leon, Jan. 7, l894, aged 30 years, l6 days.
Her father was killed at the battle of Franklin, Tenn., Nov. 30, l865.
August 3l, l869, with her mother and step-father, JOHN BELL, she moved
to Leon, where she resided until her death, except from l879 to l882,
which time she spent at Elyria, Ohio, completing her education, and
graduating June 2l, l882. She returned to Leon Dec. 6, of the same
year, where she met MR. W.A. ALEXANDER, and was married to him May l0,
l883. To them were born four children, the first, a boy, died a few
hours after birth.
The death of MRS. ALEXANDER cast a gloom all over our little city,
coming as it did so quickly and taking her in the very prime of health
from a happy home with a loving husband and fond children to mourn their
irreparable loss. After an illness of just one week, during which the
Dark Angel constantly hovered over her, the spirit took its flight to a
better and a higher home. She was conscious to the end, and was
baptized the morning of the day she died by Rev. Hughes, of the M.E.
Church.
MRS. ALEXANDER was a remarkable woman, and little did any of her friends
dream that she would be taken so soon. She was an accomplished
musician and scholar, having graduated in the Chautauqua circle, and at
the time of her death was preparing to take up a course in ancient
history. She, however, seemed to have a presentment of death, and had
frequently told her friends that for years she had had a dread of
reaching her 30th year, and she had just passed her 30th birthday, when
she was taken.
The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, Tuesday afternoon,
Jan. 9th, conducted by Rev. Hughes, and then her earthly remains were
followed to their last resting place in the Leon Cemetery by a large
number of devoted friends.
She was an honored member of the P.E.O. Society, which attended the
funeral in a body as a parting tribute to their beloved member.
The floral tributes were many and beautiful, a crescent from MR. C.E.
GARDNER and a star from the P.E.O. Society being prominent among the
many. To MR. ALEXANDER and the little children the deepest sympathy of
our entire community is extended.
