Hi All: Apparently everyone has 'bigger fish to fry' today.
<big grin..> Speaking of the heat, it's been very hot and extremely dry here in Indiana for some time now. We water only the few remaining flowers around the house and keep the bird baths and fountains full of fresh water.
The leaves are dry and falling from the trees; they say the corn crop is beyond any help, however the soybeans might have a chance with a little rain. It is still somewhat green, but showing the signs of no rain for over a month.
The people in Indiana would think 30% humidity -- unbelievable... We're used to 90% or more; five minutes outside will make a believer out of you. Ah, but it's invigorating when you peel your clothes off and step into that shower!! Our cycle ride yesterday afternoon was a very warm-winded one.
Fall is just around the corner and I have the 'itch' to read microfilm again; so I'm trying to finish the articles that are laying on the counter.. BTW, does anyone know anything about the Children's Home in Lamoni - how many years in operation and where the children came from that resided there..
Another interesting note -- there was only ONE black man in the Decatur County l860 Census and he was GEORGE MCDANIEL. He was my gggg grandfather's slave, brought with his family in l838. I know there was a concern about him being freed and have read the article that John McDaniel signed, just prior to leaving on the Oregon trail for Jackson County, Oregon; l853. When they came here from Virginia, they thought they were settling in Missouri. I believe there was trouble with the issue of GEORGE MCDANIEL (who was said to be a part of his family and stayed very close to where John McDaniel had lived, the rest of his life.) This split the family of John McDaniel, as some of them went with him to Oregon and some of them stayed in Decatur County.
Well, some of my history! (I don't believe in slavery, and I believe John McDaniel was probably about as arnery as Allen Scott, as they were friends.)
Totally off the subject, those of you who are Boyd's Bears lovers, my newest acquisitions are "Andrea Oakley" and "Penelope P. Punkinbeary".. Another of my weaknesses..
I still have the Garden Grove Cemeteries that I am willing to do lookups from, for anyone having ancestors buried there. Regards, Nancee 'List Administrator'
