I guess Scott is a pretty common name but I sure note some similarities with the family described below:

Leon Reporter, Leon, Iowa
November 29, l900

Sunday's Chicago American contained the following account of MR. HERBERT SCOTT and family, of Navilleton, Ind. Two of the sons of this sturdy family reside in this county, W.W. SCOTT at Lamoni and CARTER SCOTT at Davis City. FRANK J. SCOTT, another son, was at one time Auditor of Decatur County.
(deletion by jes)
The children are as follows: FRANK J. SCOTT, who was formerly Auditor of one of the largest counties in Iowa; Professor SAMUEL SCOTT, Superintendent of Schools of Clark County, Ind.; Professor JOHN R. SCOTT, an instructor at the Indiana Reformatory; WILLIAM SCOTT, a lawyer; CARTER SCOTT, an Iowa merchant; WINFIELD, DANIEL, VOORHEES, ZENOR and GLEN SCOTT complete the list of boys.
The daughters are MRS. JENNIE BELL, Indianapolis, MRS. MELVINA MASON, MRS. EMMA SAMPLE and MISSES ELIZA, LIZZIE and EVA SCOTT. Two of the children have grandchildren.

to the list:
I've satisfied myself that I'm probably not related to the above Scotts. They sound like a wonderful family - other than those votes for Wm Jennings Bryan. hehehe. Both my father and I searched to see if we were related to Carter Scott of Davis City and decided not.
In my first quote (above) it says that Frank Scott was auditor of Decatur County. That may be but I know for a fact that my grandfather, Herbert G Scott, was the auditor. Later on, it states that Frank was auditor of "one of the largest counties in Iowa" and I 'spect that's closer to the mark.

The names are close to those of my family...

Herbert Scott - my grandfather was also Herbert Scott.
Frank J Scott - my ggrandfather was Francis Scott, normally called Frank.
Samuel Scott - three of 'em in my family but back quite a way
John R. Scott - yep, I've got one of those, too.
William Scott - he was my ggrandfather's (Francis Scott) father
Daniel Scott - yes, him, too
Emma, Elizabeth and Eva - all of those are in my tree.

Such a group of similar names makes me wonder if the trees don't join somewhere back there. They all came from VA.. My ancestors came from Cumberland County, VA, so who knows?

At any rate, with a name like Scott they couldn't be all bad. . jack
