Ella Jane Hannen Schmidt
Mrs. Ella Schmidt
Ella Jane Hannen, the daughter of James Hannen and Margaret Smith Hannen, was born Nov. 16, 1862 in Henry county. When two years old, she moved to Blairstown in Benton County.
Sept. 13, 1882 she was married in Blairstown to Edward John Schmidt. He passed away Sept. 20, 1927. The couple moved to Dickinson county in 1895, farming five miles east of Spirit Lake. From 1905-10, they lived in Emmetsburg.
Mrs. Schmidt was an active member of the Methodist church and the Daughters of Ruth Sunday school class.
Death came Sunday, March 16 at the Spirit lake Hospital. She had fractured her hip in a fall Friday, March 14.
Funeral services were held March 18 at the Methodist church, Rev. Robert B. Crocke officiating. Mrs. Iva Single sang "Just When I Need Him Most."
Active pallbearers were Lee Smith, John Osborne, Victor Tritle, Robert Carlton, Frank Dare, Deone Crosby and Orville Parsons.
Seven children, 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren survive.
