Does anyone have any info on a Davis family of Fayette co? I am looking for a
family that originated in NC, lived in Indiana in the mid-1800s and came to
Fayette co.

Am checking any clues I find about the roots of my elusive family. Lewis
Smith born in Ohio 1825, moved to Grant co, IN in 1828 with family (father
born in SC) from 1880 census info. Married Elizabeth Webb in 1848 in Grant
co, IN. Webb is not her maiden name as she was previously married. Elizabeth
was born 1830 in NC (parents born in NC according to 1880 census info). Lewis
and Elizabeth came to Fayette co in 1856 settling first in Westfield Twp and
later moving to Harlan Twp.

Reason I am checking out the Davis surname is because Lewis & Elizabeth named
a son John DAVIS Smith. I know there were Davis' in Fayette co and thought
perhaps it could be Elizabeth's family??? Perhaps they came to Iowa
together???

A long shot but checking all leads.
