Hello,

I am trying to verify that my grandfather, Walter Alfonso Bowlds, was
indeed born in Fairfield, Fayette County, Iowa.
He was born on 27 Feb 1901.

His parents were James Jefferson Bowlds and Martha Ann Bowlds (nee
Strange).

Not long before Walter was born, his family lived in Fairfield, Wayne
County, Illinois (where James and Martha were married in 1878).
Supposedly they moved to Fairfield, Iowa sometime after 1878, had Walter
in 1901, and then moved BACK to Fairfield, Illinois where Martha died in
1907.

The only "evidence" I have that Walter was born in Fairfield, Iowa
versus Fairfield, Illinois is that, many years later, when he got
married, "Fairfield, IA" is listed as his birthplace on his marriage
certificate.

I find this hard to believe and suspect that he was really born in
Fairfield, Illinois.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can verify this?
