Martin: I think you are probably looking for the families of Henry N. and Janice "Janie" (Miller) Smith, and of Stephen and Ella (Cubert) Majors. The postoffice of both was Payne, Washington township, Fremont county, Iowa. Henry Smith (1877 - 1968) had come to Iowa in 1881, and his wife Jane (1881 - 1965) in 1885; both are buried in Hamburg, Iowa. Stephen Majors and his wife Ella had come to Iowa in 1914, and had left Fremont county by the time the 1920 Federal Census was taken. Stephen had been born about 1851 in Indiana of parents who were natives of England. Ella Cubert had also been born in Indiana, as had both of her parents.
HENRY N. SMITH married JANICE L. "Janie" MILLER: Son of Austin O. and Josephine (Morris) Smith; daughter of William S. and Belle (Fivecoats) Miller. (Their family is according to the 1915 Fremont county census and the 1920 Federal census.) I had some extra notes, too, which I put with the census. I can but hope they are put together correctly!
1. James O., born circa 1896; married Nora __?__ from North Carolina.
2. Sarah, b. circa 1901; md. William Cockeram, son of S.S. and Sarah (South) Cockeram. In 1925 were living in Washington township.
3. Henry, b. circa 1902; md. Mabel A. Majors, daughter of Stephen E. Majors (who was 73 years old in 1925) and his wife Ella Cubert (who was 56 years old in 1925). In 1925, they were living with his parents in Washington township, Fremont county, Iowa.
4. Lucy, b. circa 1904, probably a twin. (Martin Boomgaarn says she married Ralph Major, b. circa 1899 in Indiana.) Son of Stephen and and Ella (Cubert) Major.
5. Lulu, b. circa 1904, probably a twin; md.James F. McCracken, son of C.F. and Lola M. (Brown) McCracken. In 1925, they were living in Washington township, Fremont county, Iowa.
6. Bertha, b. circa 1907. At home in 1925.
7. Ora N (a son), b. circa 1912. At home in 1925.
8. Casper A., b. circa 1921. At home in 1925.
N.B.: I.--Jane (Miller) Smith sisters were (1)Maggie E. md. James O. McMurtrey of Washington township; son of Daniel and Mary (Clark) McMurtrey; (2) Lulu md. James Gardner of Militia Hollow; (3)Leota, or "Lottie", md. Leon Lamoureaux, son of Moses Uno Lamoureaux of French Village. In 1925, Leota was living with her sister, Mrs. James Gardner, in Militia Hollow.
II.--Henry N. Smith had a brother, Orson E. Smith, born circa 1869, who married Martha V. Gardner, daughter of Leb and Hannah (Jennings) Gardner.
III.--Ralph Majors, born circa 1899, had an older sister Myrtle who was born circa 1896; and two younger brothers, Charles, born circa 1902, and Edison, born circa 1904.
